History of Coach Shoulder Bags Real Owner Insights

A Clear Guide to Coach Bags

Men’s small leather goods were Coach’s first focus in 1941, and women’s handbags followed only later, in time becoming the heart of the brand. These days, coach handbags stretch from structured shoulder bags and relaxed hobos to satchels, carryalls, crossbodies and reissues from the archive. Each and every major line is taken in turn below, with notes on what the bag is, when it first appeared and how it is constructed. Several popular lines have no reliable launch year on record, so dates are listed only where they are documented.

Rather than coming from an official price list, the prices here are observed market prices from 2026, and size, material and promotions all affect them. Anyone picking a first coach bag should keep in mind that near-identical names can refer to completely different designs. When searching for a Coach bag, some buyers type «couch bag» by mistake, and because the word also refers to a sofa, listings for furniture can appear in the results.

Tabby

The Tabby is a neatly structured shoulder bag and one that also serves as a crossbody, finished with detachable straps and Signature «C» hardware. Designer Stuart Vevers unveiled it in 2019, and its shape was drawn from Coach’s 1970s archive. The photographer Juergen Teller is reported to have shot its launch campaign, «Dream It Real». Product listings have shown sizes 20, 26 and 36, and the core product name is Tabby Shoulder Bag.

The softly padded Pillow Tabby followed in 2021, offered under names such as Tabby Shoulder Bag 26 With Pillow Quilting. Observed coach outerwear prices for the Tabby 26 came to $475 in the US and £475 in the UK, while quilted and special-edition versions carried higher prices. Its ability to switch easily between shoulder and crossbody wear makes it a strong choice for buyers who want one bag for both day and evening.

Brooklyn

Much nearer to a hobo than to the structured Tabby, the Brooklyn is a relaxed coach shoulder bag cut in natural-grain leather. Its release came in August 2024, following its debut on the Fall 2024 runway. Two main sizes have been reported, the Brooklyn 28 and the bigger Brooklyn 39. Said to be spacious enough for a 15-inch laptop, the 39 makes a practical work bag.

Not to be confused with the shoulder styles, a newer Brooklyn Carryall shape was reported for Spring 2026. For UK shoppers the Brooklyn 28 was observed at £350 through John Lewis. The RealReal’s 2025 resale report said that searches for Coach had risen 160% and listed the Brooklyn among the bags mentioned; the figure, however, tracks searches rather than resale prices.

The Rogue

Designed with top handles and a shoulder strap, the Rogue is Coach’s structured take on the satchel. Introduced on the Fall 2016 runway, the bag was subsequently discontinued; a 2021 relaunch returned it to the range. Offering versions in regenerative leather and exotic skins, the line sits at the upper end of Coach’s leather range. Observed selling for $8,000, a Rogue 25 in alligator set the highest Coach bag price observed in 2026.

Coach also offers a Made-to-Order Rogue, which has reportedly taken around 12 weeks, or around 16 weeks with exotic materials. Coach (Re)Loved, the brand’s own program for resale and repair, has carried restored Rogue bags. For many collectors, the Rogue shows how far upmarket Coach craftsmanship can go.

The Empire Carryall

The Empire Carryall is an elongated, east-west top-handle bag using the product name Empire Carryall Bag 34. It was first shown on Coach’s Fall 2024 runway and put on sale in February 2025. Fashion press reports said, it sold out on its release day. Softer variants called Soft Empire, including a Soft Empire 40, are distinct styles from the structured Carryall 34.

In the UK the Empire Carryall 34 was observed at £475 on Coach’s own online store. Its long top-handle shape makes it a more polished alternative to a coach tote bag for everyday carrying. When comparing listings, look at the number that follows the name: 34 and 40 are different bags.

The Kisslock Names: Frame, Dreamer and Barrel

Kisslock is the name of a frame clasp modeled on vintage coin purses, a motif Coach associates with the Bonnie Cashin era. The term is shared by a number of different bags, and these should not be confused. Reportedly the opening look of the Fall 2026 show, the Kisslock Frame Bag in glovetanned leather was observed at $350. Since earlier Kisslock Frame versions also turn up in listings, the family could be older than that show.

The Kisslock Dreamer 21, with quilted nappa leather and rivets, is an older style now seen mainly as restored or upcrafted pieces through Coach (Re)Loved. In Spring 2026, Coach Originals brought back a 1973 design as the Kisslock Barrel Bag. Bringing yet another use of the name, a Kisslock Backpack was also presented for Fall 2026.

The Swinger, the Swing Zip and The Coach Originals

The Coach Originals is a line of newly produced reissues of archive designs, so its bags are new, not vintage. The Swinger is a short-strap, zip-top shoulder bag with a turnlock, and Coach traces the original design to 1987. The version sold today is the Swinger Bag 20, also sold With Chain and in Signature canvas or jacquard. The Swing Zip is a separate Coach Originals bag modeled on a 1998 design, so the two names are not the same thing.

Reports from early 2025 pointed to other Originals such as the Safari Bag from 1968, the Dinky from 1974 and the Hamptons Hobo from 2005. The Coach Originals name was reportedly already in use by 2020. The line suits buyers who want an archive look without the wear of a genuinely vintage piece.

Soho Decoded: Bag 25, Flap and Sneaker

Since it covers three different products, Soho is one of the most confusing names in the Coach catalog. The original Soho Flap was launched in 2006. Instead of being that 2006 bag, the Soho Bag 25 is a newer, smaller reissue, offered in materials such as glovetanned leather, patent leather and crystal jacquard. A Soho Flap Bag in regenerative leather has also been listed, and Soho styles sit within The Coach Originals.

The Soho Sneaker, by contrast, is footwear that Coach has highlighted in 2025 and 2026, so it groups with shoes and coach clothing rather than handbags. A search that includes «Bag 25» or «Flap» can separate the bags from the shoe. No reliable current price for the Soho bags was captured, so check Coach’s own website before buying.

Willow, Cassie and Juliet Compared

These three lines are recognizable, but none has a documented launch year, so treat any date you see online with caution. The Willow Tote 24, a Willow Bucket and a Willow Shoulder bag have all been part of the pebble-leather Willow family. Coach’s own website has also listed a Custom Willow Tote, and the Willow Tote 24 is a clear example of a coach tote bag. Featuring a Signature turnlock and interchangeable straps, the Cassie Crossbody Bag 19 is part of Cassie, a line of crossbody and top-handle bags.

Under newer style codes, Cassie styles have kept appearing on Coach’s own website. Available in versions such as the Juliet Shoulder Bag 25 and the Pocket Juliet Bag 30, Juliet is a relaxed shoulder bag in glovetanned leather. Before leaning on an older review, confirm whether a given Willow, Cassie or Juliet style is still current, as availability changes by season.

Every Line at a Glance: Observed Prices

In the table that follows, the main lines are set out together with their shape, key date and an observed 2026 price wherever one was reliably captured. The size of a bag, material, color and promotions all affect these prices, which are observed market prices rather than an official Coach price list. Sales tax is not included in US prices, but VAT is included in UK prices. Full-price styles may be marked down during sales, and a coach outlet runs its own promotions on outlet styles.

Set up as Coach’s own official channel, Coach Outlet sells through outlet stores and an official online outlet section on Coach’s own website. Around 85% of outlet merchandise was made specifically for the outlet channel, going by a 2014 quote from Coach’s head of investor relations. That figure is dated, and Tapestry has since spoken about bringing some full-price collection product into outlets. Current-season lines are found at a full-price coach store or on Coach’s own website.
